1. Start by stamping the image onto copier paper twice. (One needs to be fairly central as you’ll need a ‘frame’ later on) With one, cut all around the outside edge. We’ll call this mask A. With the other, (the one with the larger frame) cut the little girls body out whilst keeping it IN TACT. Then cut around the main image outline. This will give you a body ‘mask’ (B) and negative mask of the whole image (C).
2.Stamp the image onto the bottom left corner of a 5x7in card blank.
3. Using mask A to cover the image, take a star stencil and using Picked Raspberry and Salty Ocean Distress Oxide inks, blend over the stencil onto the card blank using your blending tool. Make the top right start larger if possible as this will be a backdrop to your sentiment later on. It’s advisable to use a repositionable glue when using masks. This ensures you get a reliable hold whilst working which can then be removed easily and stored for use again and again.
4. Remove this mask and replace with mask C and B. This should leave just the girls hair from the image. Blend one of your inks over this part.
5. Now, stamp both your inks onto a smooth non porous surface such as an ink blending mat and using a paintbrush pen, pick up the colour and colour the girls body and add shading to her hair.
6. Using a scrap piece of card, add some of your distress inks enough to be able to ‘punch’ some stars from. Around 5-6 should suffice. Go ahead and punch them using a craft punch.
7. Stamp your sentiment onto the larger star. I used Versafine as it is a good all round ink and it’s great for sentiments as it leaves a sharp finish.
8. Using a white gel Open, add some highlights to both the image and your stars, including the punched stars.
9. Place the stars randomly using foam pads and finish with some flat back gems. .
Tip: store the masks in the packet with your stamps to use next time! They can be used time and time again!
