This year, I went to Stitches for the first time and I had the most incredible time! I travelled all the way to Birmingham NEC to see what was in store for us in the crafty world this year. Here’s some highlights of my day!
Yarnia
In the centre of all the stands, there was an incredible display, commissioned by Creative World of Crafts, features 21 pieces made from yarn. Well-known characters from the epic tale by C.S. Lewis have been reborn using a variety of fabrics and techniques including crochet, applique, felt and hand knitting. Visitors will be treated to a beautifully crafted scene of lead characters Lucy, Susan, Peter and Edmund at the recreation of a train station complete with suitcases, lamp post and, of course, ‘the wardrobe’ as well as other central figures. It was SO amazing to look at!
DMC’s Bloggers Breakfast
DMC held a breakfast to celebrate their 270th birthday before the event and I had a lovely time meeting fellow craft bloggers eating salmon on bagels! In addition to all this excitement we got tons of freebees which revealed what DMC have lined up for us this year. Thank you to Cara for doing a lovely talk about what DMC have in store for us. It was so exciting to have a play around with their new ‘Custom by Me’ range, more about that on a blog post later! DMC’s stand was totally gorgeous too, some truly stunning displays.
Catwalk Fashion Show
Now I would LOVE to make my own clothes so I was totally in awe of the Catwalk show that was every couple of hours at the back of the event. Companies like McCalls and Global Chic showed off their latest patterns in beautiful clothes/costumes.
Crafters Companion
Sara Davies and the Crafters Companion crew had a huge stand at Stitches this year with some great workshops using their new products, including the very impressive Gemini. Sheena also did a lovely colouring workshop which was fascinating to watch! It so exciting to look through the Crafters Companion catalogue for this year, they have some really exciting products in the pipeline so watch this space!
Kuretake
Now I am no artist, but I met a lovely girl at the Kuretake stand who thought me how to use brush pens for the first time and their new calligraphy range. Keep your eyes peeled for some fab products coming your way from these guys, she made it look so easy and all their pens are a dream to work with.
